Our Earth Science lesson plans by Ring of Fire science are designed for students interested in learning about our planet. The lessons are taught around a specific topic with an activity that increases their understanding of the topic. Students understanding of the topics increases if the information contains events that have happened in their lifetime or the recent past.
The Volcanoes textbooks includes lessons on major types of volcanoes and the type of eruptions that occur on the mountains. There are about 50 to 70 volcanic eruptions each year on our planet.
The Earthquakes textbooks includes lessons on faults where crustal plates are separating and colliding. Our Earth Science lesson plans include information on seismic waves and great earthquakes that occurred in the recent past.
We live on a rocky planet that contains three major groups of rocks. Our rock kits include Igneous Rocks, Sedimentary Rocks and Metamorphic Rocks. These units include a textbook and set of rocks students use to identify rocks found all over our planet.
Our Earth Science lesson plans include information on Plate Tectonics. Students learn where crustal plates are separating, colliding or slipping past each other on our planet. Iceland, California and the Pacific Ring of Fire are examples of where tectonic plate movement is visible on the Earth's surface.
The Oceans book includes lessons on oceans zones from the seashore to deep trenches that form in subduction zones. Students learn about life in the oceans and about the great coral reefs that are forming on our planet.
The Space unit includes lessons on our solar system including the planets, the moon, and the sun. Lessons include how stars and galaxies are classified. Students learn about space rovers that are studying Mars at this time.
Three levels of textbooks
We offer three levels of student textbooks with our Earth Science lesson plans. The Activity Books are designed for early elementary students. Each lesson includes information in a mini-lesson and a hands-on activity.
Level 1 books are designed for upper elementary students. Each textbook contains 12 lessons. Each lesson is on a specific topic and includes 2 to 3 pages of information, quiz and an activity. The lessons are designed to take about one hour to complete depending on the activity.
Level 2 textbooks are designed for middle school and high school students. Level 2 books are similar to Level 1 books except they contain 16 lessons and each lesson contains more in depth information. Each lesson takes about 1 hour to complete and includes a quiz and an activity that relates to the topic of the lesson. Students completing three lessons per week can finish a textbook in six weeks. Three units should be completed for a semester of Earth Science credit.
Our Earth Science lesson plans include DVD instructional guides that are taught by the author, Myrna Martin. They are designed to be an introduction to the lessons in Level 1 and Level 2. Students watch the DVD, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes, prior to starting the lesson.
Teacher’s manuals are available for all Level 1 and Level 2 textbooks. A page of information for teachers is located before each lesson. The teacher’s page includes the main lesson points, vocabulary words and definitions, activity information and a correlation of the lesson with the NSTA science standards.
