Great earthquakes shake the land destroying buildings and creating tsunamis that can travel thousands of miles from the epicenter. In this unit of study students learn how earthquakes are generated both on the land and in the ocean. Students also learn why earthquakes occur much more frequently in California and the Pacific Northwest than in other parts of the country.
