6th - 12th Grade Students

Our Level 2 The Rock Cycle textbook covers the three major groups of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. The book is designed to be completed in six weeks by students who finish three lessons per week. Each lesson contains information, quiz and a hands-on activity.

Our DVD that comes with our complete kit contains video lessons taught by the author. The author introduces each lesson and gives additional background information on the topic of the lesson. The additional information is not covered in the textbook.

Each Rock Cycle textbook lesson contains a hands-on activity. The activities are designed to be fun and usually simple to do. They also increase students understanding of the information taught in the lesson.

Lesson Include:

  • Pyroclastic rocks
  • Volcanic Features
  • Sedimentary Rocks

Fascinating facts about the rock cycle

The inside of the Earth below the crust is not molten rock. The heat and pressure is extreme in the mantle but the rocks are solid. The outer core of the Earth is molten due to the extreme heat and pressure.

The molten outer core was discovered by Beno Gutenberg a seismologist studying P waves and S waves in the Earth's interior. He found that S waves stopped at a boundary inside the Earth. He concluded the interior must be molten rock.

Inge Lehmann, a Danish seismologist, studying earthquake waves in Denmark discovered that P waves sped up at a point inside the core for a period of time then slowed down. P waves travel through liquids and solids. Using the travel speed of P waves during great earthquakes in Japan she discovered the solid inner core of the Earth.
